2. Chicago Bears rumored quarterback target: Trey Lance

Arguably the most exciting and unpredictable quarterback name in this upcoming draft is Trey Lance out of North Dakota State. With Lance having not played at all this year, other than just one exhibition game in the fall, his draft stock is still a bit murky.

There is no question Lance is a first-round talent, but the mystery lies in where he lands in that opening round. We know Trevor Lawrence will go no. 1 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars at this point, but beyond Lawrence, we don’t know much.

Justin Fields’ stock has dropped a bit, giving way to one Zach Wilson out of BYU who has surpassed Fields in many mocks and rankings lately. Then, there’s the case of Mac Jones’ rise. Does he find himself in the first round as well? If so, where does that leave Lance?

We could see a bunch of quarterbacks go in the first round in 2021, which will make that opening night of the draft one to remember.

In one of the latest mocks from The Draft Network, they had Lance going to Chicago. Draw Harris wrote:

"“I believe they give Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy another season and the duo hitch their wagon to Trey Lance. Lance is from the midwest and grew up playing football in the cold. Ideally, this helps him acclimate to playing outdoors in Chicago.”"

Harris makes a great point. Lance grew up playing football in Minnesota, so he’s used to the cold weather. Not only that, but he’s a dual-threat quarterback to behold. A guy used to playing in Midwest winter is a positive, but if he presents a matchup nightmare with his legs, that’s an even bigger advantage for his offenses.

Lance’s NFL Draft stock not only came about in 2019, but hit an all-time high and stayed there, because of a ridiculous season he posted with the Bison. Lance threw 28 touchdowns and zero picks, while rushing for 14 scores on the ground. If he lands in Chicago, the question then becomes, is he ready for the NFL from the get-go?
