The Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets are now division rivals but good trade partners.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets are going to be division rivals for a season with the temporary realignment. They will compete in the new Central Division so they will see each other a good amount. Just because they are division rivals now doesn’t mean that they can’t make a trade with each other though as this trade would make sense for both teams.

For the Blackhawks, Boone Jenner would be a good player with two years left on his deal that can play center and wing. They need someone like that who plays hard right now because it appears that a rebuild is iminant. They are going to be without a few of their impact players so they might as well add someone like Jenner who can score some goals. He is only 27 years old which is young enough to be good for a long time still but old enough to help those players who are younger than him.

Columbus doesn’t have a second round pick in 2021 so giving Chicago a 2022 pick seems fair. The Hawks need as many picks in the first three rounds as they can get over the next few seasons as they try to rebuild their organization.

For Strome and the Blue Jackets, he would be joining a team that is coached to outwork their opponent to win games. They aren’t as talented as some other teams but they will compete for a playoff spot because of the way they play. Strome would be the perfect touch of skill to that roster as it heads into 2021, pending a signing of course.

It would probably be in the Hawks’ best interest to extend strome on a good deal instead of trading him because if they do trade him, it could end up pretty bad for him. None of the players coming back in this deal have the ceiling that he does but he probably won’t get much more in return from anyone because everyone knows Chicago’s hands are tied. Hopefully, no matter what the result of this mess is, the Blackhawks will be well off moving forward.
