Chicago Bears: 2021 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Rose Bowl
By Usayd Koshul
7. QB Ian Book, Notre Dame
Here’s the deal: Earlier we touched on Alabama quarterback Mac Jones being a potential option on day one for the Bears. However, if the Bears elect not to draft a quarterback in the first round, Ian Book could be a potential option as a day three prospect.
While Book may not be a top-tier prospect, there is a lot that he brings to the table as a backup quarterback who can be developed and play a valuable role on any team. Book is mobile, has nice touch on passes, and good ball placement. As a deep ball passer, there is potential for him to improve, however, he has shown that he can hit the deep ball at times.
Unfortunately, Book isn’t perfect as a prospect. The biggest issue with him is his inability to recognize and feel pressure when in the pocket. At the next level, this means that whenever he’s playing, he’ll need to have a good offensive line in front of him in order to ensure that he’s able to go through progressions and get the ball out.
Overall, Book’s play is going to make-or-break Notre Dame against Alabama. However, he is still a player that could end up being a nice practice squad and developmental option at the next level. Furthermore, in the 2021 NFL Draft, he’s likely to be a day three draft pick or an undrafted free agent.
