Chicago Bears: 2021 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Rose Bowl

4. OT Alex Leatherwood, Alabama
It’s been no secret but the Bears need to add to their offensive line in 2021. Whether that comes in free agency or the 2021 NFL Draft, the Bears will have to replace Charles Leno Jr. and Bobby Massie. If Chicago elects to go the route of addressing the need of offensive tackle via the NFL Draft, Alex Leatherwood would make an excellent fixture on the Bears offensive line.
On the beginning of any given play, the biggest aspect of Leatherwood’s game that sticks out is his ability to be aggressive. He’s not afraid to take on defenders and impose his will. Leatherwood’s biggest impact is seen in the running game, where after his initial block, he uses the interior of the offensive line to his advantage, especially when he gets to the second level.
While Leatherwood’s ability to be aggressive is a nice aspect to his game, it’s also worth noting that sometimes, he tends to be a bit too aggressive. On tape, this is seen when he’s unable to control his body, which then leads to defensive lineman taking advantage of him, especially when he’s unable to recover.
Right now, Leatherwood should be classified as being a mid-to-late first-round pick that some team will take a chance on, knowing that there is a lot of potential that exists which will allow for him to develop into a franchise-caliber left tackle.
