Chicago Bears: 2021 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Rose Bowl
By Usayd Koshul
2. WR Devonta Smith, Alabama
We all know that the Bears have some solid wide receivers in Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney. However, is set to hit free agency in 2021 and if the Bears don’t bring him back, they’ll need to find someone to replace him.
Enter Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith, who’s been one of the most electric playmakers in college football this year. It’s quite likely that Smith is the first wide receiver off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, with the expected run on quarterbacks early, there is also a chance that Smith falls down the draft boards.
At a first glance, many will look at Smith’s height and weight (6-foot-1, 175 pounds) and see a player who plays much bigger than his size. Much of Smith’s damage comes after the catch and in the middle of the field. In 2020, he’s accounted for 98 receptions, 1511 yards, 17 receiving touchdowns, averaging 15.4 yards per reception. In other words, Smith’s production in his third season at Alabama has been off the charts.
Smith in the Bears offense next year would be insane. For a unit that is expected to feature speed all across the board with Mooney and Tarik Cohen, adding Smith would take the offense to another level.
