Chicago Bears: 2021 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Rose Bowl
By Usayd Koshul
1. QB Mac Jones, Alabama
Let’s get quarterback out of the way. Realistically, the Bears are likely to have a chance at selecting Mac Jones, who’s projected by many to be either a mid-to-late first-round pick or an early second-round pick.
Jones has used 2020 to solidify himself as a quarterback prospect who has what it takes to be a solid NFL starter. He’s thrown for 32 touchdowns and just four interceptions while completing 76.5 percent of his passes. His quarterback rating of 95.6 ranks first in all of college football, ahead of names like Zach Wilson, Trevor Lawrence, and Justin Fields.
Part of the reason that Jones doesn’t get the credit that other top quarterbacks in the 2021 draft is because many are unsure whether Jones 2020 season is a result of him actually being talented or due to the talent around him which includes guys like wide receiver Devonta Smith and running back Najee Harris.
It’s a fair question to ask regarding Jones’ play. However, if the Bears do move on from Trubisky and they’re not picking high enough for a top-tier quarterback, drafting a player like Jones and having him sit behind Nick Foles could be one of the many ways that the Bears address the quarterback position in 2021.
