Trade Two

Jon Heyman of MLB Network put it out there that the San Diego Padres have also been looking for catching help so he wonders if the Cubs would include a catcher in the Darvish trade. If the Cubs gave them Yu Darvish and Willson Contreras, it would certainly be about as big of a trade as the Cubs could make this offseason. It would certainly be one that helps both teams get what they are looking for based on where they are as organizations.

For one, the Cubs giving up two all-stars like Darvish and Contreras would command a big return. MacKenzie Gore is the Padres number one prospect. He is a left-handed pitcher and we all know how much adding a top lefty like that would mean to the Cubs. He was the third overall pick in the MLB Draft by the Padres in 2017 and he is going to make some MLB team very happy if they are able to get him away from San Diego.

Of course, if the Cubs traded Contreras away with Darvish, they might want to add a young catcher that could maybe take his spot down the line. Luis Campusano is currently a guy who can fit that role. He is currently the Padres number four prospect and has played in one MLB game in his career which came in 2020. He hit a home run in that game so he is already off to a fast start. Justin Lange is a quality depth young right-handed pitcher that could come up and help one day so he rounds out this sweet blockbuster deal.
