Chicago Bears: 15 possible replacements for Mitchell Trubisky
By Ryan Heckman
7. Chicago Bears’ best replacements for Mitchell Trubisky: Gardner Minshew
It is all but guaranteed the Jacksonville Jaguars will draft a quarterback with the first or second overall pick in next year’s draft. But, what do they end up doing with Gardner Minshew? They drafted Jake Luton late in the 2020 NFL Draft and could keep him aboard along with their 2021 draft pick, but then Minshew’s future becomes foggy.

The one thing that’s not debatable is this: Minshew is, at the very least, a phenomenal backup quarterback. He could also still end up being a solid starter, but hasn’t been given a true opportunity to take the reins.
In 23 games as a pro, Minshew has thrown for 5,530 yards and 37 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions. For a sixth-round pick two seasons ago, being thrust into a starting role last season, Minshew has surpassed any and every expectation he could have had laid on his shoulders.
It’s apparent Jacksonville wants more of a sure thing at their quarterback position, and that’s fair coming from a franchise who will hold one of the top two picks in the draft. But, Minshew has a future in this league one way or another. If the Bears wanted to wait a year in terms of drafting a quarterback, they could reunite Minshew and Foles in Chicago.
The best part? Minshew wouldn’t cost much in a trade.
