5. Chicago Bears’ best replacements for Mitchell Trubisky: Derek Carr

One of the other common names linked to the Bears earlier this year was Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. Back during free agency, there were a lot of whispers about the Raiders moving on from Carr for either Tom Brady or a rookie. For some reason, rumors have remained constant regarding Jon Gruden wanting to go get “his” quarterback.

Should the Raiders decide they need to move on this offseason, Carr would be a fantastic trade target for the Bears. His contract is extremely tradable, as he’s set to make roughly $63 million (total cap hit) over the next three years. By comparison to today’s quarterback contracts, that’s quite the bargain.

By the time his contract is up, Carr is still just 32 years old and could be in line for one more deal if he pans out in Chicago. At this stage, Carr remains a pretty steadfast quarterback — better than what the Bears have had the last few seasons.

This season, Carr has completed over 68 percent of his passes for 3,396 yards, 24 touchdowns and just seven picks. He’s also shown a bit more mobility than any other season as a pro, which has been a nice surprise.

Carr represents a low-risk type of quarterback for the Bears, a lot like the upcoming rookie Jones we just covered. He doesn’t take a ton of deep shots, but Carr makes a lot of safer decisions which won’t hurt the Bears’ chances of winning games.
