Chicago Bears: 15 possible replacements for Mitchell Trubisky
By Ryan Heckman
13. Chicago Bears’ best replacements for Mitchell Trubisky: Ryan Fitzpatrick
Like Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick loves to chuck the football. At times, he can be quite reckless as well. But, he’s an experienced vet who knows how to win football games — just take a look at his fourth quarter a couple of days ago against the Las Vegas Raiders after taking over for Tua Tagovailoa.
Fitzpatrick has thrown a touchdown for eight different teams in his lengthy career, and has yet to really hang around a franchise. He’s a career journeyman, but if he stopped in Chicago, would he be good enough to lead this team on a postseason run? It’s plausible, that’s for sure.
With Fitzpatrick in Chicago over Trubisky, you’d at least have a trustworthy veteran who could act as either a backup to Foles or even take over the starting gig. One thing is for certain, and that’s the financial aspect of signing Fitzpatrick. He wouldn’t require a ton of cash, so the Bears could sign him pretty cheap.
Out of his eight seasons he’s started double-digit games, Fitzpatrick has tossed 20-plus touchdowns in five of them, which is pretty impressive considering he’s hardly had anything guaranteed in his 15 years in the league.
