9. Chicago Bears’ best replacements for Mitchell Trubisky: Philip Rivers

Going back to the Colts, Rivers may be available following this season. After he signed with Indianapolis, head coach Frank Reich did say that he believed this was going to be a “multiple year” stint for Rivers and the Colts. But, his contract was only a 1-year deal, so they could decide to part ways depending on their offseason outlook.

Rivers is not the same guy he was a decade ago, but he’s still a gunslinger with the ability to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers. It took a few weeks this year, but when he finally gained the necessary chemistry with T.Y. Hilton, Rivers started to look even better, and Hilton reverted to the guy we once knew.

In Chicago, Allen Robinson would be his version of Hilton, except better. Rivers benefits greatly from a team committed to the run, which the Colts have now begun to do in a much more efficient fashion with Jonathan Taylor. If the Bears continue to figure out how to get David Montgomery going, Rivers would benefit in similar fashion.

Some fans may cringe at the thought of bringing in Rivers, but he has shown this season that he still has enough left in the tank — and that competitive fire hasn’t gone anywhere, either.
