Chicago Bears: Landing spots for Mitch Trubisky in 2021

6. San Francisco 49ers
Nick Mullens. Jimmy Garoppolo. C.J. Beathard. If one thing has become clear since Kyle Shanahan became the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, it is that his offensive system is friendly when it comes to quarterbacks.
In other words, Shanahan’s schemes make any quarterback look good. Mullens came out of nowhere and found success and has developed into a viable option, replacing Garoppolo at times. Trubisky could be next on that list as San Francisco will likely be in the market for a quarterback in 2021, as they can cut ties with Garoppolo, saving $24.1 million dollars in the process.
Considering the 49ers and Bears swapped first-round picks in 2017 in a trade that eventually led to Trubisky wearing a Bears uniform, Shanahan could view this as an opportunity to get his quarterback of the future. Were the 49ers interested in Trubisky during the 2017 NFL Draft? We don’t know. However, if there is anyone who can get the most out of Trubisky, it’s Shanahan, who’d use a lot of play-action, that would get Trubisky out of the pocket and on the move.
San Francisco is one of the few places where Trubisky could legitimately start day one and have an impact. The scheme that Shanahan runs would cover up his weaknesses, making him look more serviceable than most would expect him to be.
