9. . SP. Chicago Cubs. Yu Darvish. 11. player

Yu Darvish had a rocky start to his Chicago Cubs tenure. He came in to replace Jake Arrieta who will forever be known as one of the key pieces to them ending the 108 year World Series drought. It was tough at first but he figured it out big time in 2020. He was so good that he came in second place for the National League Cy Young and the only reason he didn’t win it was because Trevor Bauer had a historically good end to his season.

Darvish’s name has been in the trade rumors lately but nothing has come of it yet. As of now, we have to assume that Darvish is with the Cubs by Opening Day. For the sake of the “perfect possible Cubs rotation”, Darvish has to be on it at the top. If he is there, he will be the Opening Day starter because of how good he was in 2020.

Darvish can throw with the best of them when he is on his game. When he is not on his game, he looks like a completely different player. The Cubs having him back at 20 million a year would show that he will resemble more of what he was in 2020 rather than the years prior in a Cubs uniform. His trade value has never been higher and will never be this high again but if they want to win he will be their guy.
