9. Nico Hoerner – 2B

The Chicago Cubs have a lot of faith that Nico Hoerner is going to be a great player for them. He would be a perfect nine hitter if the National League does the right thing and keeps the DH. If they don’t, he would make a fine eight hitter with the pitcher hitting behind him in this spot. He is a guy who can hit for contact and play his position well. He isn’t necessarily a future superstar but he is someone that can go on to be a great player.

The Cubs are going to use Nico Hoerner as their second baseman. He can play multiple positions on the infield but they have pretty much everything covered besides second-base. He came in to take over that position right in time because it was one that had a new vacancy because of some bad decisions the guy before him made.

He had a decent season under tough circumstances this year. He wasn’t a home run hitter but he did contribute in other ways. He had 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored for the Cubs. His WAR was a positive one (0.8) so you know here is something to build on going forward. If he is allowed to hit ninth for the Cubs next season, it will be a great opportunity for him to continue improving. If he has a good year, he will round out a lineup that could be good if it was constructed just like this.
