Chicago Bears Rumors: 3 desperation trades for Carson Wentz
By Ryan Heckman
Trade No. 3
This last deal is similar to the first one in the respect that Chicago gets a second rounder along with Wentz. But, they keep foles.
Instead, they also get rid of a player having seen better days. Linebacker Danny Trevathan has not been the same guy in 2020. He’s looked much older, slower and unfortunately the Bears locked him into a 3-year deal during this last offseason. He still has two seasons left at around $7 million per year, on average.
While Trevathan lands on his third team after playing in Chicago and Denver, the Bears find themselves in a funny position. They would owe guaranteed money to both Wentz and Foles, but does that mean they still draft a quarterback?
Some fans have liked the thought of waiting until 2022 to draft a quarterback, and those are the folks who would be happy about a deal like this. Wentz is the guy for two years, while Foles could be cut for minimal loss after 2021 and the Bears bring in a rookie at that point.
Once again, if Wentz is able to revert back to the guy he was a couple of seasons ago, the Bears are in great shape. It might all be mental, and Wentz might just be worth the risk.
