If Jalen Hurts continues to play well, will Carson Wentz be available for a team like the Chicago Bears?

What could have been… Leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, a lot of Chicago Bears fans wanted the team to take the shot on second-round prospect Jalen Hurts. The quarterback came into the draft as one of the more polarizing names. Would his passing improve, and would he be able to hang against NFL defenses?

In his first start on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, Hurts made history as the second quarterback in over 50 years to rush for 106 or more yards in his first start. The other guy? Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.

Hurts looked cool and comfortable against a formidable defense in the Saints, and he led the Eagles to an improbable victory while keeping the team alive in the NFC East race.

On the sideline stood former starting quarterback Carson Wentz, who has been relegated to the backup job for now. If Hurts continues to play at a high level, though, he could find himself in another uniform next season.

Multiple reports have the Eagles wanting to keep Wentz in 2021, but his trade market may be an intriguing one should they want to rid themselves of his contract.

The Bears, on the other hand, have yet to solve their quarterback issue. They’ve tried with Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles, but neither one has strung together enough solid performances to sway the Bears into keeping one or the other long-term. If anything, Foles is a bridge at best, not the future. Trubisky, meanwhile, will likely enter free agency next spring.

So, if the Bears wanted to take a shot at fixing their quarterback position, could they go after Wentz? All he might need is a change of scenery, and who knows, Chicago could be that place. What would it take? That’s a loaded question, considering his contract. Let’s dig in.
