Chicago Bears: 6–game losing streak likens Matt Nagy to Dick Jauron

The Chicago Bears are amidst a free fall as they have lost six straight games.

Things have gone from bad, to worse, to the Chicago Bears being an all-out laughing stock. Six weeks in, fans were defending the 5-1 Bears as being a legitimate contender. It was even a  little difficult to defend them at that point, after seeing how Chicago could very well have been 1-5 at that point.

It’s scary to think, had a couple of games gone just a little differently on one or two plays, the Bears could easily — easily — be 2-10 or 3-9 right now.

Head coach Matt Nagy is probably one of the most heavily searched terms in the sports world right now, as fans continue to wonder just how much longer he will last. It can’t be much longer — that’s for certain.

Chicago’s current 6-game losing streak is one of the more embarrassing stretches in recent memory, and that alone should lead to Nagy’s dismissal. If you add in the fact that the last 6-game losing streak came under Dick Jauron, this whole season becomes even more comical.

Two years ago, if you would have told fans that Nagy would once be mentioned in the same breath as Jauron, most of us would have laughed in your face. The reigning NFL Coach of the Year? Compared to Dick Jauron? That’s ridiculous.

Now, it’s not so funny, is it? The 6-game losing streak is the team’s longest losing streak in 18 years, dating all the way back to 2002 under Jauron.

Most of us remember the Jauron years. Four out of five seasons under Jauron, the Bears finished with a losing record. Aside from the one miraculous 13-3 season that ended with a playoff blunder in the first round, Jauron was an average coach on his best days and a poor coach on most days.

We are now at a whole new low point for Nagy and the Bears. Who would have guessed we would be comparing him to Jauron in some fashion? We even have former players taking shots at Nagy on social media.

The Bears may as well cash in for the rest of the season and look forward to 2021. They will have many issues to fix, starting with the quarterback position which has been botched by Ryan Pace almost as many times as Jennifer Lopez has been engaged.

It’s not just Nagy, though. It’s Pace. It’s Ted Phillips. It’s the entire organization. This organization has been historically cheap, lazy and unwilling to move towards drastic measures. Why not buck the trend and blow it all up right now?

What do the Bears have to lose other than more games? Get rid of them all right now — Nagy, Pace and Phillips.

The Bears have become a team stuck in mediocrity and, barring any major changes between now and 2021, will continue to be stuck there for years to come. It’s time to blow it up.
