Chicago Bears: Five offensive head coaching candidates to consider
By Usayd Koshul
3) Pete Carmichael Jr., New Orleans Saints
Bears fans don’t want to go back to the New Orleans Saints organization, especially since Ryan Pace is being fired the day that Matt Nagy gets fired. However, the Saints have boasted one of the NFL’s best offenses. While Sean Payton and Drew Brees are the main catalysts that bring everything together in New Orleans, don’t overlook Pete Carmichael Jr. either.
Carmichael is currently one of the longest-tenured offensive coordinators in the NFL. He’s been in his current position with the Saints since 2009, which speaks volumes to his value around the Saints organization. Besides just being an offensive coordinator, he’s also been a quarterbacks coach, so he does have at least some experience when it comes to developing quarterbacks.
In terms of where to rank Carmichael as a potential option for the Bears, it’s hard to get a true estimate for a number of reasons. First, would Bears ownership want to go back to the Saints organization for a head coach, knowing Ryan Pace, their previous general manager didn’t work out? Second, is Carmichael really ready to take over a team and be the head man in charge or has he also been living in the shadow of Brees and Payton his entire career?
