The Chicago Bears are still taking heat for their quarterback decision in 2017.

Week after week we have to tune into NFL Football and watch Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson light the league on fire. Instead of drafting either of them in the first round of the 2017 Draft, the Chicago Bears selected Mitchell Trubisky with the second overall pick. It is already one of the worst decisions in the history of the National Football League and it gets worse and worse as the days go on. No matter what, the Bears are always going to be tied to their success because they passed on them.

Deshaun Watson seemed like a guarantee to be a good NFL player. He was a National Championship winning quarterback out of Clemson. Everyone knew he would be great in the NFL and now he is one of the five or six best quarterbacks in the NFL. The problem is that as good as Watson is, Mahomes is that much better.

Patrick Mahomes is on track to rival Tom Brady as the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL. In his first full NFL season, he was the MVP of the league. In the same year, he was one play away from being in the Super Bowl. The following year, he did reach and win the Super Bowl in addition to being the Super Bowl MVP. It has been amazing so far for him and it is only getting better.

The thing is, regardless of how bad of a decision it was not to draft him, people still give Ryan Pace a pass. People like to make the claim that “nobody saw this coming when he was playing at Texas Tech” or “We can rip on Ryan Pace for not taking Watson but nobody knew Mahomes would be this good”. The problem with that statement is that it just shouldn’t be true. Mahomes was awesome in college and was clearly going to be good in the NFL.

As you can see in this video that Bleacher Report put together, Mahomes was an absolute stud at Texas Tech. He was able to do everything in college that makes him so great in the NFL. He was able to extend plays with his legs, use his big arm to hit guys deep, and throw across his body on the run and hit the target. Any scouts that weren’t able to see this from him should be let go now. The Bears should be ashamed of themselves even more after watching this.

Matt Nagy was with the Kansas City Chiefs before coming to the Chicago Bears. He is the one for them who pegged Mahomes as a generational talent that they absolutely could not let slip away. They ended up getting him but Nagy left to be the Bears head coach. It is a shame that Nagy wasn’t there to give them that wisdom back then. Now, that decision by Ryan Pace is going to get him fired and Nagy will be right there with him.

If Mahomes was on the Bears right now instead of Trubisky, they might already have a Super Bowl with him. That defense combined with the play of Mahomes would be one great combo. It is a shame that this was never able to happen but it all falls on the Bears. Hopefully, they learned something from this catastrophic mistake and are able to finally figure something out in the not so distant future.
