The Chicago Bears’ best QB option in the draft may be Alabama’s, Mac Jones.

Next April, at the NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears are expected to select a quarterback — likely in the first round. While there is a lot of time between now and then, there is a strong possibility that when the dust settles, the best and most realistic option for Chicago will be Alabama University’s Mac Jones.

At this point, it’s uncertain which head coach and general manager will be making the decision but regardless of whether it’s the current administration or a brand new team, they will have to address the quarterback position.

Unfortunately, they may not be in a position — absent a trade up — to make a run at one of the top prospects in the draft, those being Zach Wilson or Trey Lance (Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are likely both out of reach unless the Bears give up a king’s ransom).

If they are not in such a position, they will be looking to the next tier of quarterbacks which, at this point, includes Florida’s Kyle Trask and the aforementioned Jones. Between those two, Jones would be the wiser choice for a variety of reasons we will discuss below. However, it’s not just a matter of him being better than Trask. There is so much to like about his game independent of any comparisons to his SEC counterpart.

With that as our backdrop, we take a look at what makes Jones a desirable option, as well as some of the concerns that would accompany the pick.
