Trade Three

The Chicago White Sox loved what they saw from Dane Dunning in 2020. He is a good young pitcher that has a bright future. They didn’t however, love what they saw enough to use him for the whole game three against the Oakland Athletics. He has a lot of work to do but should eventually be able to get it done.

If the Cubs wanted to do a trade that is one for one and get a prospect that is a ways away, Jared Kelley would be the guy, and trade two would make more sense. However, if Jed Hoyer and his staff wanted to add someone who can pitch for them as early as 2021, Dane Dunning is a fantastic option.

Dunning made seven starts for the White Sox in 2020. He ended with a 2-0 record in those seven starts and had a 3.97 ERA and 1.118 WHIP. In  34 innings pitched he had 35 strikeouts which aren’t bad at all for a pitcher like him. He isn’t one of those power pitchers but when he starts you just know that he is going to throw strikes. He would be a good option for the bottom of the 2021 Cubs rotation.

Of course, these two teams making trades is always tricky. It seems like the fan influence/opinion keeps them from making deals a lot but this might be one that can help both sides. Each team is headed in a different direction so with a trade like this it just makes sense.
