Chicago Blackhawks: Sending 3 prospects to Team USA
The Chicago Blackhawks are sending three prospects to Team USA camp.
USA Hockey announced their preliminary roster for the 2020-21 World Juniors team. They have invited three players who are a part of the Chicago Blackhawks organization. Drew Commesso, Landon Slaggert, and Alex Vlasic are going to be a part of the preliminary roster with a chance to make the team. This camp will be a good way for them to show their stuff and allow us to see what they can do.
Drew Commesso was a second-round (46th overall) pick in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Blackhawks. He is a young goalie who will play for Boston University when that conference gets going again. He has played for Team USA at many different levels throughout his life so far including a year with the United States National Development Program.
Landon Slaggert was Chicago’s third-round pick (79th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. He is a center that is currently playing for the University of Notre Dame, whose college hockey season is already being played. He has a long way to go in his development but a chance at this tournament will be very nice for him.
Alex Vlasic was Chicago’s second round (43rd overall) pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. He is a great young defenseman that also plays for Boston University. He is a little older than the other two and has an extra year of experience. He is the cousin of San Jose Sharks defenseman, Marc-Edouard Vlasic. If Alex was ever able to become as good as his cousin, that would be fantastic news for the Chicago Blackhawks.
There are some really great players on this Team USA preliminary roster. Their forward group is fantastic with players like John Beecher, Cole Caufield, Alex Turcotte, and Trevor Zegras amongst others but their defense is kind of weak. With Commesso, Spencer Knight, and Dustin Wolf, they should have some really good goaltending. This group isn’t as talented as Team Canada is going to be this year but anything can happen.
