Chicago Bears: 3 logical reasons to fight for the playoffs
By Ryan Heckman
3. Give Allen Robinson reason to stay
Things have not been peachy between the Bears and Allen Robinson over the last couple of months. The team failed to give him a well-deserved contract extension before the season, and it looks as though there have been no discussions on the matter during the season.
Robinson has been visibly unhappy at times, and no one can blame him. Quarterback play has been horrific and play-calling… well, just plain bad. But, could he stick around if the Bears make the playoffs?
Look at it this way: If the Bears stay competitive and ultimately get into the postseason, that likely means their offense has improved — even if just a little bit. By that same argument, that would mean Robinson has been a difference-maker and has reason to believe that, not only could he receive a big pay day, but he might actually want to stay.
No matter what, the Bears could use the franchise tag on Robinson, and that situation could get ugly if he truly wants out. But, if the Bears can figure out how to put a few more points on the board and continue to use Robinson heavily, maybe he warms up to the idea of staying in Chicago.
It’s definitely wishful thinking by most accounts, but it makes sense. Give him the ball early and often in every game from here on out, hope for better offensive line play, and see what the Bears can come up with.
