Trade Three

The Tampa Bay Rays might be fooling us all and want something we wouldn’t expect them to want. After all, they were just in the World Series after winning the American League Pennant. They even made the series difficult for the Los Angeles Dodgers who were the best team on paper and it wasn’t close. Perhaps, they feel that during these difficult times away from baseball that they would like to do whatever it takes to make another run at it.

There could be a world where they want to add another big bat. They have a lot of great pitchers so trading Snell for Kyle Schwarber would be using a strength to address a weakness. Schwarber has 40 home runs and 90 RBI potential with his bat. He would go down to Tampa and be one of the most productive hitters on the team right away. The only issue for the Rays is that he is eventually going to need a raise.

Miguel Amaya is currently the Cubs number three prospect. The 21-year-old catcher should have a chance with the Cubs in 2021. Willson Contreras may or may not be gone but they are going to need Amaya regardless of what happens with him. If the Cubs traded him to the Rays, he could also still be in the Majors as early as next season.

As for Ryan Jensen, he is the Cubs’ number eight prospect. He is a right-handed pitcher that the Cubs have a lot of stock in. They drafted him with their first-round, 27th overall pick, in the 2019 MLB Draft. They could, however, decide to move him if they feel like they want to go for a title again and Snell would be a wise addition for anyone trying to do that.

Now, let’s pretend that the Cubs sell off all of their stars and rebuild. Then all of these trades would be terrible ideas. These trade proposals are all with the idea that they try to be a winning team once again in 2021. A lot of these young prospects will be great for them if they rebuild so they should keep them if they do in fact rebuild. If they decide they want to try and keep winning, they should give Tampa Bay a call.
