Trade Two

The Chicago Cubs are clearly very in on Ed Howard. He is their number four prospect after they made him the 16th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. He is a Chicago kid so playing for the Cubs might be pretty special for him one day. If the Cubs, however, wanted to take another serious run at the World Series, trading Howard might be a smart idea to get a quality starter.

Howard won’t be ready until somewhere between 2023 and 2025 (most likely) so the big guns currently on the Cubs will be long gone. He is a 19-year-old shortstop that the Rays would love to add to their organization if they want to move Snell. The Rays like to have cost-controlled players who are great and that is likely what Howard would be for the first few years of his career.

The thing about this trade proposal that is unique is the fact that it is one for one. The Cubs would be getting Snell and the Rays would be getting Howard. It is a great veteran pitcher on a long-term deal in exchange for a rookie who will take a few years to be an impact player. It would be a clear risk for both teams but it would be really fun to watch a trade like that run its course.
