Bringing in Anthony Rizzo

Anthony Rizzo is one of the key faces in the history of the Chicago Cubs. The way it came to be, however, is a great story. Just about a year into Theo Epstein’s Cubs tenure, he acquired Rizzo in a trade that sent Andrew Cashner and Kyung-Min Na to the San Diego Padres. The Padres had just acquired Yonder Alonso who blocked Rizzo from getting a chance there at first base so they sent him to the Cubs. It couldn’t have been easy to trade Cashner either because he was a young stud who could throw 100.

It worked out, clearly, for the Cubs as he is now going to go down as one of the greatest players to ever play with the Chicago Cubs. He is the type of guy that even if he finishes his career somewhere else, he will have his number retired and perhaps even get a statue built of him. He was one of the key figures in them winning the World Series and that will always be remembered.

Theo deserves credit because he drafted Rizzo when he was with the Boston Red Sox. By the time he got to Chicago, he was able to find a way to get Rizzo back on his side and it was a great move. He knew it was a risk to take a chance on him but it paid off for everyone. Now that Theo is leaving, you have to wonder what Rizzo’s next career move will be but he will always have a special place in Chicago.
