Pro Comparison: Nikola Vucevic

As previously stated, Karnisovas went back to the familiar well trying to pull off one of his tricks yet again. After finding Nikola Jokic from the same exact club, he selected the 6-foot-11 big man Marko Simonovic.

The best pro comparison, right now, for Simonovic would be Orlando Magic big man Nikola Vucevic. There are a few things that stick out about Simonovic which make this a solid comparison.

First, Simonovic is a guy who can run the floor well. He has the potential to be a stretch big in today’s league with the ability to shoot well, even from beyond the arc. Adding a little weight to his frame is a must, but that’s very common with young, international bigs.

Second, SImonovic can execute the pick-and-roll well. He’s an excellent candidate for that style of offense due to his ability to pick and pop, again even from long range.

One commonality between both draft picks is the need to add hustle players, and Simonovic does just that around the rim. He’s an offensive rim protector, just like Vucevic in Orlando. Being able to put back offensive rebounds for points is such an underrated quality, and Simonovic does that very well.

The biggest weakness, right away, will be Simonovic’s adjustment to playing defense in the NBA. He’ll have to get a little more physical, because he lacks a true post game on both ends of the floor. However, he has time to develop, and that’s what Karnisovas does best.
