44. player. 9. . 1B. Chicago Cubs. Anthony Rizzo

The Chicago Cubs built their entire World Series roster around Anthony Rizzo. This is a player that will have his number retired and have a statue built of him at Wrigley Field. He was there with them during the rebuild and stuck it out to get to the glory days. It doesn’t seem, however, that they are going to allow him to finish out his career in Chicago as they rebuild their team.

Rizzo is definitely expendable if the Cubs are serious about moving on from some of their veterans. Javier Baez and Kris Bryant each were in MVP conversations at different points but Rizzo has been the most consistent player through all of this. Seeing him go would probably hurt more fans than any other player on the team because he was the face of the rebuild.

The Cubs would probably get a lot for Rizzo. Elite first basemen are a little bit easier to come by in Major League Baseball but what he brings off the field is not easy to come by. If there were room for him in a contending lineup, they would certainly be wise to give up a few assets to get him. Rizzo would bring championship pedigree wherever he was called to play so that is why a lot of teams should consider him as an option if the Cubs are willing. There isn’t much more he can do for them if they are actually rebuilding so the least they can do is get him on a contending roster.
