Chicago Cubs: Three trade packages for Francisco Lindor
Trade Three
There might be a world where the Cleveland Indians require more than two quality prospects for Lindor. He is one of the best players in the league so they might not care what the contract is. We don’t know if they will get that but the Cubs might be willing to give up a few to take one more run with their core. If they traded Adbert Alzolay, Miguel Amaya, and Kohl Franklin over to the Indians for Lindor, the Cubs would be adding another superstar while Cleveland would be stocking the cupboard.
Alzolay is already on the Major League roster. He had a pretty good short MLB stint in 2020 after making a few appearances in 2019 as well. In 2020, he made four starts and pitched in six games. He had a 1-1 record to go with his 2.95 ERA and 1.172 WHIP. This year was a significant upgrade over his year in 2019 where he was still on the rise. The Indians are better than anyone at helping young talented pitchers take the next step.
Miguel Amaya is the Cubs number three prospect. He is a catcher so Willson Contreras is currently blocking his path to being a Cubs starting catcher but you never know what happens with Contreras at this point. If the Cubs decided to move on from him so they can get a star like Lindor, he would be a fit there in Cleveland.
As for Kohl Franklin, he is a long way away from being in the MLB but as mentioned a bunch here, Cleveland is good with pitching development. He was drafted by the Cubs in the sixth round of the 2018 MLB Draft and is now their number seven prospect.
It is very likely that Lindor is traded in the offseason but we have no idea if the Cubs will be one of the teams in on him. They are either going to be rebuild after 2021 or try and keep the band together. Theo Epstein is going to be gone but Jed Hoyer might try and keep it going. Adding Lindor would give them another elite player but they would have to give up a decent amount to do so.
