Chicago Bears: 8 can’t-miss 2021 prospects to start tanking for
By Ryan Heckman
1. OT Penei Sewell, Oregon
His team is having one heck of a season thus far, as the Ducks are the no. 11 team in the country currently. But, offensive tackle Penei Sewell decided to opt out of the 2020 season and instead turn his focus to preparing for the draft.
Chicago Bears
While much of the focus is on the quarterbacks in this class, and justifiably so, Sewell leads an immensely talented offensive tackle group. He should end up being the top tackle in the class, in which case the Bears very well would have to move up to get. But, it would be worth the trade up.
Though Sewell opted out of the season and risks other tackles soaring up draft boards, he will still likely be the first one off the board.
Sewell is 6-foot-6 and weighs in at 330 pounds. The scary thing is, he’s one of the best athletes you’ll ever see at the position. He moves with surprising quickness at his size. Even as a 19-year-old kid last season, he was arguably the best tackle in college football.
That means, he would have projected to be taken ahead of a guy like Tristan Wirfs, who already looks like a stud as a pro. With a year of even more preparation and training, Sewell could see himself taken as high as no. 2 or no. 3 overall next year. If that’s the case, Chicago probably won’t have a chance to select him. However, he is well-worth keeping in mind as a potential fit if the Bears have any opportunity to grab him.
