Chicago Bears: Top 4 college quarterbacks CHI is positioned for
By Ryan Heckman
4. Trey Lance, North Dakota State
It is unfortunate we won’t get to see more of Trey Lance due to North Dakota State moving their season to the spring, but we did see just a peek a few weeks back in his only fall game of the year. It’s tough to take much from that single game, so looking at his entire 2019 campaign is a better sample size.
The electric quarterback passed for 28 touchdowns while rushing for 14 more, to give him a total of 42 scores — and he didn’t throw a single interception all of 2019. His efficiency was staggering, completing 66.9 percent of his passes and averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt.
Lance is somewhat of an unknown in terms of how he will translate to the pros, but his athletic ability is enough to put him into the first round. Up until recently, most had him as the third quarterback off the board. Wilson could push for the QB3 as his season continues, but that might mean the Bears luck into a kid like Lance at their pick.
He would be a great candidate, like Trask, to sit for a year and learn behind Foles. But, Lance is a much different quarterback. He’s not just mobile, but he looks to score. He is quick, not fast. He’ll look to shed a tackler before he attempts a juke. This guy is strong — real strong.
