Chicago Bears: Top 4 college quarterbacks CHI is positioned for
By Ryan Heckman
3. Zach Wilson, BYU
Welcome to the flames. BYU’s Zach Wilson is going to be the hottest, trendiest quarterback name from now until draft day. Forget your Lawrence and Fields. Wilson is going to be the new hotness. We know Lawrence and Fields will go in the top five, but after that, we’re not sure when the next domino will fall in the first round.
It very well could be Wilson. This kid has just about everything you want in a franchise quarterback. The 6-foot-3 junior has averaged over 300 passing yards per game through seven contests, while throwing 19 touchdowns compared to just two picks.
Wilson is intriguing because he’s sneaky mobile, having rushed for seven more touchdowns on the ground this year.
Watching Wilson on film, the number one thing that jumps out about him is how he times his throws. The timing and ball placement from Wilson is a thing of beauty. Check out this perfect ball where Wilson looks off the safety in order to create his spacing for his receiver to catch in stride for the score.
The one thing people will undoubtedly say about Wilson is his lack of competition while at BYU. But, there’s a reason he and his squad are ranked in the top 10 currently. His team is the real deal because Wilson is the real deal.
Just try searching his name right now around social media and the sports media world. He couldn’t be a hotter trend for draft experts and analysts at the moment. If Wilson finishes this season out playing just as he has, he will be a top-20 pick in the upcoming draft, if not higher.
As we’ve already established, the Bears would currently pick around the 18th spot. Should they drop another game to Tennessee, that changes (for the better?). Regardless, Wilson is right there within reach, even if they have to trade up just a bit.
