Chicago Bears: Rest of NFC isn’t great either
The Chicago Bears aren’t the only NFC team with major flaws.
The Chicago Bears are an okay team in the NFC. Coming off two losses in a row, they are now sitting with a 5-3 record with a good Tennessee Titans team on the horizon. They need to win that game to avoid some serious issues. They believe they can be in the playoffs but they want to believe that they can make a deep run in those playoffs when they get there. A good chunk of the wins needed to be in the playoffs is there but can they keep it going?
The rest of the NFC is nothing special, either. In fact, going into their Monday Night Football game last week (a loss to the Los Angeles Rams), they had a chance to take over the number one seed in the NFC. They have gotten very lucky with some of their wins as they could easily be 2-6 right now but the fact remains that they are 5-3.
For some reason, the Bears take all of the criticism that there is to give but the other slightly above average teams take none. The Green Bay Packers are a popular pick to make a run at the Super Bowl but they are nothing special. They have Aaron Rodgers which makes them a threat but outside of that, they are a very flawed football team. They were just defeated by the then 1-5 Minnesota Vikings which isn’t a good look at all.
The Seattle Seahawks are probably the only true elite team in the NFC right now. Russell Wilson is a top-three quarterback in the NFL and they play a good team game around him. They have the 5-2 Arizona Cardinals on their heels in the division, however, with the 5-3 Rams behind them. Both of those teams trailing Seattle are good teams but they don’t have anything more than the Bears in terms of legitimacy.
The San Francisco 49ers are the defending NFC champions sitting in the last-place of that division with a 4-4 record. The fact that they are in last with a .500 record shows that the NFC West is probably the best division in the conference but unfortunately for San Francisco, injuries are going to derail them. So many impactful players are potentially down for the season including Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle.
How about the South? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a strange win on Monday Night Football. They had trouble with a 1 win opponent and the Bears were able to defeat them earlier in the season. They might be the best team in the NFC (maybe besides Seattle) but things are far from perfect there.
Their competition in the South is the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees is going to the Hall of Fame but they are a very flawed football team as well because Brees doesn’t look like his old self. They have a big-time running game but they barely squeaked out their victory over the Bears.
The 2020 NFC East is one of the worst divisions in the history of the NFL. Every team is under .500 and they would all be lucky to even reach the six-win mark. The Philadelphia Eagles are probably going to take the East crown just by default but chances are that they will get destroyed once the playoffs roll around.
That just about covers all of the potential playoff teams in the NFC. Just about all of them, like the Bears, have issues that they would need to address in order to get to the Super Bowl. There they would face one of the elite teams in the AFC so they better all get their act together by then. For some reason, the Bears take a lot of heat but nobody else does even though they also have problems.
