Chicago Bears: Five teams to trade with at the trade deadline
By Usayd Koshul
4. Denver Broncos
If there’s one area on the Bears defense where an upgrade is needed, it’s the defensive tackle position. The absence of Eddie Goldman is noticeable every time a team runs the ball. Luckily for Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy, they can turn to former Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to find a stopgap for Goldman.
The Broncos have some depth on the depth on the defensive line. However, names like Shelby Harris and Dre’Mont Jones aren’t going to be moved. But maybe the Pace can strike a deal for a guy like DeShawn Williams.
Williams, who’s bounced around the NFL and Canadian Football League a few times, is listed at 6-foot-1 and 295 pounds. He has played in just nine games in his NFL career and as a result of his lack of starting experience, he could be had for a conditional day three draft pick.
What’s the likelihood that the Bears trade for a guy like Williams? Probably very low. However, it shouldn’t be ruled out, especially since the Bears play solid running backs like Derrick Henry, Dalvin Cook, and Aaron Jones at some point down the stretch. Williams would join the defense as a rotational defensive lineman and right now, the Bears have plenty of those guys in Bilal Nichols, John Jenkins, and Roy Robertson-Harris.
