Chicago Bears Rumors: 4 offensive linemen available via trade
By Ryan Heckman
1. Pat Elflein, Minnesota Vikings
According to Albert Breer, the Vikings are looking to sell at the deadline this year. It probably doesn’t take much for the average fan to realize this, but the fact that Breer noted it makes them a team worth watching.
Names like Harrison Smith and Adam Thielen have been brought up in some rumors, but the guy the Bears should be most interested in is former third-round pick Pat Elflein. He was recently designated to return from injured reserve after missing a few games due to a thumb injury, so the Bears could potentially use him against the Tennessee Titans in Week 9.
Elflein has been mostly labeled as a disappointment considering his draft status. But, at this point, he would actually be a significant upgrade over Rashaad Coward at guard. Elflein would also give them flexibility because he has played both guard and center. He switched to guard last season.
His best season was actually his rookie year back in 2017, where he started 14 games at center for the Vikings. It was also his least penalized season, as Elflein was flagged just one time all year long.
The Bears should know Elflein well, and bringing someone in from a divisional rival is always an intriguing storyline. There is potential for Elflein to play with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, should he be dealt to a team like Chicago.
