Chicago Bulls: 3 players whose future with the team is doomed
By Ryan Heckman
3. Lauri Markkanen
This is definitely a bold take, but since the Bulls were rumored to want to move up into the top two of the 2020 NBA Draft, it makes a little more sense. Obviously, we’ve already established the fact that Eversley is up for making some deals. It’s easy to see that the Bulls will be making at least one notable move this offseason.
Lauri Markkanen is potentially the biggest trade asset for the Bulls right now. He’s still only 23 years old. He offers a bright future for the right coach and system as a perfect stretch four in today’s league.
The Bulls very well could package Markkanen with their no. 4 pick to get into those top two selections in the draft. For a team like Golden State, adding Markkanen could be too good to pass up. Also, looking at adding Markkanen next to Karl-Anthony Towns in Minnesota could be an intriguing idea for the Wolves.
So far in Chicago, we haven’t really seen Markkanen’s ceiling. We know what he could be, but Jim Boylen ruined him for a couple of years. Under Donovan, Markkanen could end up turning out to be a heck of a player. So, trading him also erases any of that possibility. But, Donovan and Eversley, along with Karnisovas, could want an opportunity to go out and get their guys.
Seeing Markkanen leave would be tough, but only because of what he could be. If he doesn’t end up panning out, then the Bulls’ risk is well-worth it.
