2. Cooper Kupp in the slot vs. Buster Skrine

This season, Kyle Fuller and Jaylon Johnson have been absolutely stellar. To be transparent, last week was the first time we saw Johnson look particularly human, but as a rookie, he’ll learn from that. Aside from the couple of hiccups against the Panthers, Johnson has been incredible.

Fuller is playing like a man possessed this season. He might be the second-best player on this team. But, the one area the Bears have been most vulnerable on defense is in the middle of the field. Danny Trevathan has had his struggles, but in reference to the Rams, I’m speaking more on slot receivers.

Of all Bears defensive backs, Buster Skrine is the most concerning in this one because he gets to rematch with Cooper Kupp. Over the last few seasons, Kupp has been arguably the best slot wide receiver in football. His size, route-running and hands make him lethal, especially in the red zone. Last year, Kupp was held to three catches for 53 yards by Skrine.

Kupp appeared to have caught a touchdown in that game last year, but it was called back to the 1-yard line after he appeared to have fumbled. Nevertheless, Kupp was able to take advantage of the Bears in the slot for a long gain. He beat Skrine badly here.

People can talk about Robert Woods and how good he is after the catch, but the Bears’ outside corners should be up to that task. The passing game on Monday night will be all about Kupp and being able to contain him.

Kupp has had at least five receptions in every game this season except for his most recent against the 49ers. He’s been targeted about eight times per game since Week 2, which should be a dead giveaway to Chuck Pagano that Skrine is in for a huge workload.

If Skrine can come up with a big performance against one of the league’s best, the Bears will have a great chance to win this game.
