Some people might not think that Duncan Keith is worth a first-round pick one for one in 2020 if you are the Florida Panthers in this situation. Well, so many lesser players are flipped at the deadline for first-round picks year in and year out and most of them are for one half-season of service time. The Panthers would be getting him for three with a trade like this.

Why might the Panthers want Keith? Well, they fail to meet expectations each and every year.  With forwards like Jonathan Huberdeau and Alex Barkov leading the way, they can really have a solid attack. They also have some decent defensemen with guys like Aaron Ekblad, Keith Yandle, and Anton Stralman. Their issue was goaltending in 2019-20 as Sergei Bobrovsky did not live up to his contract at all.

They are also coached by Joel Quenneville down there in Florida. You’d have to think that he would love to add his old pal Keith to that group down there as they try to take the next step. COVID-19 allowed them to make it to the bubble but they were defeated in the play-in round by the New York Islanders. Adding an experienced vet like Keith to a team that has a coach that knows how to use him might really help them become Cup contenders.

The Hawks would also love to add another first-round pick to their group of assets for next season. They have plenty of other players on the roster that could help net them a first and Keith could be one of them if they play their cards right. We don’t know for sure if they will trade him but if they do, they might be able to pull off any of these trades and each one of them depends on what the market looks like.
