8. LB Cameron McGrone, Michigan

Linebacker isn’t a major need of the Bears in 2020 but Cameron McGrone is worth keeping eye on. If he decides to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft, McGrone is someone that could turn into a starter by the time the 2022 NFL season rolls around.

If there was one term to describe McGrone, it’d be high ceiling. While he may not the attention that names like 2021 NFL Draft prospects Micah Parsons and Dylan Moses are getting, McGrong could very well burst onto the scene in 2020.

There’s a lot to like about a prospect such as McGrone. Besides being physical, he also has the necessary range that’s required for linebackers to thrive in the NFL. His ability to blitz also is something to like as he gets off blocks quickly and gets after the ball carrier.

When asked to drop back into coverage, McGrone is clearly growing in this area. During his 10 starts in 2019, he showcased some potential but was also beaten by tight ends and running backs occasionally. As time goes on, he should grow in this area, perhaps taking a big step forward in 2020.

Overall, McGrone is a high upside prospect who could entice the Bears. Being locked into Danny Trevathan’s contract through the 2022 season may not be ideal, however, it does offer McGrone to sit and learn from one of the NFL’s most underrated linebackers.
