Chicago Bears: Big Ten prospects to watch during 2020 season
By Usayd Koshul
6. OT Daniel Faalele, Minnesota
Let’s face it, the Bears need some help on the offensive line. Charles Leno Jr. has been wildly inconsistent and Bobby Massie isn’t getting any younger. Luckily for the Bears, the 2021 NFL Draft presents a prime opportunity to add some fresh, young talent, especially at the offensive tackle position.
Minnesota’s Daniel Faalele should be on the Bears radar for a lot of reasons. First, his size, 6-foot-8, 400 pounds means he’s got the ideal arm length to prevent defenders from getting around him at the next level. A second thing that sticks out about Faalele is his athleticism and his mobility. He’s easily able to get to the second and third levels and take on defenders.
One area where Faalele could improve would be his technique. It isn’t the worst by any means, however, there are stretches in his game where edge rushers get the best of him. If he can clean these technical issues up, there’s no reason to think that he can’t be a starter in the NFL for at least the next decade or so.
Right now, there’s no reason to think that Faalele can’t come in and compete for the starting spot right away. While it does take rookies, especially offensive lineman, some time to get adjusted to the next level, Faalele, if developed properly by the Bears coaching staff can develop into a core part of the offensive line for years to come.
