Sizzling start should impress the Chicago Bears

To say that Zach Wilson is off to a hot start might be the understatement of the young college football season. While much focus has been on Florida’s Kyle Trask, Wilson has quietly gone about putting together an impressive four-game stretch.

Wilson has completed an eye-popping 82 of 101 passes good for an 81.2 completion percentage and a 208.6 rating, 1,241 yards, 8 touchdowns and 1 interception. Some might downplay his performance because of the level of competition, but completing nearly 82 percent of your passes is impressive, regardless of the level of competition.

In addition, he is not dinking and dunking his way down the field. His 13.2 yards per attempt this season currently rank second behind only Alabama’s Mac Jones. Pro Football Focus also has him as the third highest-rated passer behind Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones respectively.

There is still a long way to go this season, and it is often fool’s gold to try to predict where a player projects in the draft this early in the season, so we won’t do that. However, we will say we are very impressed by what Wilson has put on tape this year and are excited to watch him develop throughout 2020. So far, he has demonstrated a lot of qualities that make him such an intriguing prospect.

We were fortunate enough to catch up with former BYU quarterback Riley Nelson, who now calls games as a radio analyst for his alma mater. Riley has had the opportunity to watch Wilson up close since the start of last season, so we were thrilled to get his perspective.
