Chicago Blackhawks: Three non-tendered players to consider
The Chicago Blackhawks had Anthony Duclair on the squad for a short amount of time. In 2017-18, Chicago acquired him from the Arizona Coyotes halfway through the season. He only played in 23 games for Chicago where he had two goals and six assists for eight points. It certainly isn’t eye-popping stuff but he had flashes where he showed off his incredible skill. It is the type of skill that makes you realize why he was a top New York Rangers prospect once upon a time.
Well, in 2019-20 he found a lot of success playing with the Ottawa Senators. In 66 games played, he had 23 goals and 17 assists for 40 points. Those aren’t superstar numbers but the numbers of a great depth player on a good team. The Hawks would be so smart to bring him back because he is fast and young still at 26 years old. There is no reason that he can’t continue putting up numbers like that in the right situation.
He would be a great third-line center on a third line that is looking to make an impact using speed and power. Third lines playing well in all three zones go a long way in teams being good and Duclair might be able to have that sort of impact. With Ottawa buying him out, it probably means that they don’t want to pay him what he is worth but the Hawks might be willing to do so if they believe in him. It might be a risk but on a one-year deal, it would be a risk worth taking.
