Chicago Bears: 4 trade offers to make before it’s too late
By Ryan Heckman
4. Get rid of the old man
Danny Trevathan’s contract is one of the things that worries me most about this team. Locking him up for three more years earlier in the offseason looks to have been a huge mistake.
So far, Trevathan looks his number in age. He’s been behind on coverage more often than not and is getting blown by in the run game. The coaching staff has even talked about limiting his snaps because of how he’s looked on tape.
There is no immediate answer for replacing Trevathan. But, even throwing Deon Bush up there in certain scenarios has looked better than leaving Trevathan on the field for key downs.
Trevathan is an easy guy to root for. He’s full of energy. He’s likable. But, at this stage in his career, he looks flat out over the hill. He looks like he’s done. If, somehow, the Bears can get anything in return for him, they should try.
Even if it’s around a fifth or sixth rounder in exchange, dealing Trevathan should be a must. He cannot and will not last as a starter for the next three years.
