Question #3: Why haven’t the Bears extended Allen Robinson?

If you follow Bears Twitter, surely you’ve heard the phrase “Extend Allen Robinson“. Since last season (at least) fans across social media platforms called on the Bears front office to give a contract extension to the star wide receiver. He hasn’t gotten an offer.

Robinson continues to impress week after week under less than optimal conditions for an NFL wideout. The quarterbacks throwing to him over his career have been: Blake Bortles, Chad Henne, Mitch Trubisky, Chase Daniel, and Nick Foles. Not exactly the cream of the crop.

Foles is the best QB Robinson has ever had, but he’s going to miss some throws. The difference is that Foles is much more consistent, and that bodes well for Robinson. Sunday was Robinson’s second straight games with over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown.

If Foles can continually get the ball to Robinson with the chance to make a play, the cries from Twitter will only amplify with the demand that the team extends Robinson. He made another amazing catch Sunday for a fourth-quarter touchdown, the team’s lone TD on the day.

My (irrational) fear was that the Bears would extend Trubisky instead of Robinson, but that seems impossible now. Robinson had to shudder when teammate Tarik Cohen signed a 3-year, $17.25 million contract extension, and tore his ACL eight days later.

The best player on the Bears offense doesn’t deserve to hang in limbo as his health is on the line each week. His stock is trending up. The rallying cry must continue. Say it with me: EXTEND ALLEN ROBINSON!
