Chicago Bears: Offense doesn’t improve at all with Nick Foles

The Chicago Bears didn’t look much better with Nick Foles under center.

The Chicago Bears are now 3-1 after losing to the Indianapolis Colts in a fairly boring football game. It looked like yet another Bears game where the defense kept them in it while the offense was terrible. They couldn’t move the ball at all while Philip Rivers was able to do just enough to get the Indianapolis Colts the win.

It was a frustrating game to watch because they just couldn’t get anything going offensively at any point. The play calling was awful in every way, shape, and form.

This was the first week of the season that Nick Foles made the start at quarterback. Mitchell Trubisky was pulled in week three because of the fact that he was just as ineffective as Foles was Sunday.

For most of Trubisky’s career, he hasn’t been very good at moving the football. The offense has been about as inept as it could possibly be during his time and yesterday, Foles was essentially more of the same.

There was a large portion of passes that were sailed over the heads of his receivers. He wasn’t able to hit his target with consistency at all during the game. He was 26 for 42 for 249 yards. He had one touchdown pass and one interception in the game which shows how tough of a time they had moving the ball. He also had two rushing attempts for negative yardage which is not what they need to see from him. It is fair to say we thought he would have better numbers than that going into the game.

This was the best defense that the Bears have played up to this point and the offense showed that they simply can’t move the ball against a squad like that. Things are only going to get worse if they don’t figure it out. If Foles wants to keep this job beyond this year, he needs to show so much more than what he showed in this game. They might as well have had Trubisky in there in this one because it would have been the same exact same thing.

It is so annoying that the quarterback and offense continue to haunt this team. The defense is very good and makes life hard on most offenses but they are being wasted because they can’t score points. We all thought that starting Foles would make this offense look a little more formidable but it certainly hasn’t.

This unit is going to need to be so much better against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night if they don’t want to lose again. Tom Brady and his crew are going to be coming in hot after a big second half in this week’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Tom might not be what he used to be but he is still something else on the field. The Bears will look silly if they continue to be this bad offensively.
