Chicago Bulls: 4 free agents connected to Billy Donovan
By Ryan Heckman
1. Guard Andre Roberson
Andre Roberson is one of the most overlooked and underrated players who has ever played under Donovan. Casual basketball fans may not know much about Roberson, but he’s an incredibly smart and crafty player.
Roberson has spent every one of his six years in the league with Oklahoma City, so he’s a player Donovan knows well. He could arguably be one of the top free agents targets for the Bulls. Roberson would bring a defensive edge to the Bulls’ lineup that they don’t currently have.
Digging deep into Roberson’s numbers, he is a guy who rarely turns the ball over and hardly commits shooting fouls. To put it simply, he’s a calculated player.
The biggest obstacle facing Chicago when looking to sign a guy like Roberson is the fact that Otto Porter Jr. could opt into his final year, making roughly $28 million this season. Roberson is accustomed to being a starter at the two or three spot, and so is Porter.
If Chicago signed Roberson, that would likely mean they’re going to try and trade Porter. Either that, or they are bringing an expensive player like Porter off the bench. Roberson’s defensive prowess is something the Bulls should look to start at the small forward position, with Porter’s scoring coming off the bench.
But, again, that is quite the price to pay for a sixth man.
