Chicago Bulls: 3 players whose stock rose with Billy Donovan hire
By Ryan Heckman
New Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan will make a significant impact from Day 1.
For some Chicago Bulls fans, it might still not feel like reality. The organization went out and vigorously pursued not only the most expensive head coaching candidate available, but the very best.
After parting ways with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Billy Donovan was going to land on his feet somewhere — and quickly. It didn’t take long for new vice president Arturas Karnisovas to begin his pursuit of Donovan, but fans had no idea.
There was a report which linked the Bulls to Donovan immediately following the announcement he was leaving Oklahoma City. But, following the initial report, there was very little chatter coming out about Karnisovas going after him. In fact, the official report coming out via Shams Charania of The Athletic stated the Bulls’ final four candidates — and the group did not include Donovan.
This was a move that caught many by surprise, but it was a necessary move to prove the organization is serious about bringing winning ways back to Chicago. The city should be thrilled with the outlook for their beloved Bulls now that Donovan is here.
The Chicago Bulls’ roster will look drastically different under Donovan, without even making a single move.
In his first press conference, Donovan impressed. He talked a lot about how Karnisovas wanted to build a team culture. Karnisovas wanted a partner with his next head coach, and that spoke volumes to Donovan.
In terms of the roster in place, Donovan believes exactly what so many fans have believed over the last couple of years: It’s a talented roster which should have achieved more, plain and simple.
The team has some key, young pieces in place and there are three in particular who will benefit immensely from Donovan’s presence.
