Bears vs Falcons: Big test for both offense and defense
The Chicago Bears have a big test ahead of them against the Atlanta Falcons.
Later today, the Chicago Bears are going to take on the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta is a decent team on paper because they have a lot of star power. They are 0-2 because they are a very flawed team but because of guys like Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Calvin Ridley, they come across as dangerous. It feels like people have a hard time admitting they stink for that reason but a few more weeks will determine that. The Bears should see this as a very winnable game if they get contributions in all areas.
Bears Offense
The Atlanta Falcons defense is not good. They gave up 38 points in week one and 40 points in week two. Granted, it was Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott they gave up all of those points to and not Mitchell Trubisky but it was two pathetic performances in a row. This is a big chance for the offense to get their game going in the right direction. They have had spurts of good play but nothing has been consistent. If Mitch can make some reads and get the running game going well, they should be able to score a decent amount of points.
Bears Defense
The Bears’ defense is their strength. It is well documented that they have some studs in all areas in that unit. With Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, and Robert Quinn ready to go, they should be able to create a decent pass rush against Matt Ryan. He does, however, have the two previously mentioned stud receivers to pass the ball off to. Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones are ballers that should be able to make big plays.
The Bears secondary is going to have their hands full with those two. Kyle Fuller needs to be at his best no matter who he is paired up against. Jaylon Johnson, the rookie, is going to have whoever Fuller doesn’t. That is probably the biggest test so far in his rookie season. The Bears didn’t have to deal with Kenny Golladay in week one and the Giants don’t have a receiver quite like that. This is a big test to see if the Bears can keep Atlanta from being lethal in the air.
The Verdict
The Chicago Bears need to win this game. If they do, they will be 3-0 and well on their way to making it to the playoffs. With the potentially lousy Indianapolis Colts on the schedule for week four, this week three matchup could be very big. The offense and defense have both had question marks on their play so far this season so if they can get it right they will win this football game.
The (what should be) elite defense needs to show up against a very talented offense and the (what normally is) lousy offense needs to take advantage of a weak Atlanta defense. One thing for them also to remember, is that they are never out of it against Atlanta. We saw the Dallas Cowboys make a huge comeback against them last week so you truly never know. Hopefully, the Bears are able to get an ugly win here and move to 3-0.
