Bears vs. Giants: Mitch Trubisky must get these players involved
By Ryan Heckman
1. WR Anthony Miller
Looking at the Giants’ first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers, there were a few major takeaways when it comes to their defense. To begin with, Pittsburgh’s second starting wide receiver Diontae Johnson actually had a pretty significant impact on the game.
Of Ben Roethlisberger’s 32 pass attempts, Johnson led the Steelers with 10 total targets. He caught six of them for 57 yards, but the fact that he led the team in targets says a lot.
The Giants’ pass defense is going to be one of their biggest weaknesses all season long. With much of the focus on JuJu Smith-Schuster Monday night, Johnson was able to get open on a more regular basis.
Anthony Miller has a lot of similar characteristics as Johnson does. Both are fairly sound in their route running and are more of a possession receiver. They do great damage after the catch. They’re shifty.
If Johnson was able to see so many targets against the Giants’ secondary, Miller should do the same. He’ll have no problem getting open against this defense, and Trubisky has to ensure he finds him on those occasions.
In the win over Detroit, Miller caught four of six targets for 74 yards and the all-important game-winning touchdown. He was third in targets against the Lions, and just so happened to be directly behind this next guy.
