Chicago Bears Rumors: 5 trades for Allen Robinson
By Ryan Heckman
1. New England Patriots
Out of all the teams currently in need of wide receiver help, the New England Patriots present the most intrigue when it comes to Robinson. Cam Newton proved he was back on Sunday, rushing 15 times and scoring twice on the ground.
But, give him a true number one threat at the receiver position on the outside, and his game would flourish even more. Newton has historically leaned on tight end play in the passing game, and he’s never had better than a young Curtis Samuel or Kelvin Benjamin in his prime.
The Patriots are going to be a Newton-led rushing attack with uncertainty in the backfield. Between Damien Harris hitting injured reserve and Sony Michel having a history of injury concerns, Newton already has plenty on his shoulders.
If Bill Belichick wants to ensure a playoff berth without Tom Brady in 2020, landing someone of Robinson’s caliber would help the cause tremendously.
Robinson likely wouldn’t come cheap, and his trade market would probably be higher than most wideouts. Last year, the Patriots tried and failed in the Mohamed Sanu deal, losing a second rounder before cutting him this offseason.
Dealing a first rounder could potentially get it done, but adding a mid-round selection would be enough for the Bears to accept.
